Bonnie Gonzalez, Principal
I am honored to have been chosen to lead Black Mountain Middle School as your new Principal. I believe that all students deserve to have a place where they feel safe and empowered to achieve their academic and personal potential.
My husband and I grew up in the Los Angeles area and moved to San Diego while he was in the Navy. We loved San Diego so much we stayed and moved to PQ in 2002. We have been proud to raise our four kids here and be a part of local sports and school events.
My journey in education has been filled with learning, growing and serving. I started out as a Special Education Instructional Assistant while I was in college. After college, I was a classroom teacher for 22 years in elementary and middle school before stepping into school leadership. These experiences have given me a strong foundation of the classroom experience and the leadership needed to support students and teachers.
Middle school is a unique time in the development of a child with many ups and downs and changes and opportunities. It is my belief that this is one of the most important times in a child’s life and school, families and friends play an important in shaping how they perceive themselves and others.
I am honored to be a part of it for the students at Black Mountain. I look forward to partnering together for a successful school year and many more to come.

Jeff Bales, Assistant Principal - Hello, Raiders' families! I am honored and excited to join the Raider community as an assistant principal. I come to Black Mountain Middle School after 23 years in the Del Mar Union School District, where I served as a classroom teacher, instructional leader, and dedicated advocate for students and families. Throughout my career, I have been deeply committed to building strong relationships, creating engaging and inclusive learning environments, and helping every student feel known, valued, and supported.
My approach to leadership is collaborative, student-centered, and grounded in the belief that schools thrive when educators, students, and families work together. I value curiosity, continuous growth, and the use of thoughtful practices and data to help students succeed both academically and personally.
I am thrilled to begin this new chapter at Black Mountain Middle School and look forward to getting to know our students, families, and staff. I am genuinely excited to become part of this remarkable community and contribute to all that makes Black Mountain Middle School such a special place. I am looking forward to meeting you all!
